🐝 Macklins U16 vs Diamonds

Final Score: Macklins 12 - 33 Diamonds

Quarter Scores: 1-10 | 3-18 | 6-27 | 12-33

Whilst the scoreline didn't fall Macklins' way, there was so much to be proud of from this U16 squad as they continue to build as a team. With players still learning each other's strengths and developing combinations on court, this match was another important step on their journey together.

The team started with Lily (GA), Isla (GS), Isobel (WA), Chloe (C), Ella (WD), Poppy (GD) and Natalia (GK). Throughout the game, players were rotated into different positions to build confidence, versatility and understanding across the court. Every player embraced the challenge and continued to work hard for one another.

A real strength throughout the match was the defensive end. Natalia, Poppy, Ella, Chloe and Isobel produced some fantastic defensive saves, turnovers and relentless pressure against a strong Diamonds attack. Their determination, communication and willingness to work for every ball kept Macklins competing throughout and created opportunities to transition the ball down the court. Isobel's move from WA into WD was particularly impressive, showing her adaptability and commitment to putting the team first.

Congratulations to Isla and Natalia, who were deservedly awarded Players of the Match. Isla worked tirelessly in attack, offering strong movement, determination and a constant option in the circle, while Natalia was outstanding in defence, reading the play well and refusing to let the intensity drop throughout the game.

As the game progressed and the combinations evolved, the team began to settle. By the final quarter, there was a noticeable improvement in their cohesion. Players communicated more effectively, supported one another better and moved the ball with increased confidence. The final quarter was undoubtedly the highlight of the match, showing exactly what this group is capable of when they trust each other and play as a unit.

What impressed me most was the team's grit and resilience. Despite facing a strong opposition and a challenging scoreline, they never stopped encouraging each other, never let their heads drop and continued to battle until the final whistle. For a team still forming and finding its identity, that attitude says everything.

A special shout-out also goes to Grace B for her fantastic support from the sidelines. Working alongside Coach Claire, Grace offered thoughtful observations and valuable insights throughout the match. Her encouragement and additional perspective helped support the team and reflected the culture we are building at Macklins.

This match was a perfect example of our Queen Bee Energy philosophy. Queen Bee Energy isn't about one player standing above the rest. It's about creating a strong hive where everyone contributes, supports one another and keeps working together through challenges. The scoreline may not have gone our way, but the teamwork, resilience and determination shown by this group demonstrated exactly what a strong hive looks like.

The final quarter showed what this team can achieve when they play for each other, and that should give everyone plenty of confidence heading into the next game.

👑🐝 Strong hive. Strong spirit. Strong future. Keep pulling together and the results will come. 💛🖤
