Macklins Newsletter #3. October 2024

Welcome back the Macklins Newsletter! It’s been a while, and there is a lot to catch you up on! 

From April to July our Junior squads took part in the Medway Junior Summer League. All of the squads made some incredible progress this season, and we’re looking forward to seeing how far they progress this upcoming season. Below are the results for each team. 

Hurricane | Prem | 4th out of 8

Storm | Inter | 5th out of 8 

Tornado | Div 1B | 3rd out of 4

Cyclone | Div 2 | 3rd out of 6

The end of the Summer season also came the end of some of our players’ times as juniors. So we’d just like to take a moment to thank Amara, Nosizwe and Demi for their great performances in the junior league over the years, and a massive good luck as they join our Senior squads in Section A this season.

We entered 3 teams into the Summer Senior league and had some great results over the season! They are as follows: 

1s | Prem | 5th out of 8 

2s | Inter | 1st out of 8 | Promotion to Prem

3s | Div 3 | 5th out of 7

A massive congratulations to 2s on their League Win and Promotion to Prem! They only lost two games across the whole season and beat second place by 7 points! 

We entered 4 teams into the MNL 70th Anniversary Rally, two junior and two senior. We had some great games and great results, and there are as follows:

Juniors

Seniors

Macklins Summer | Runner Up out of 8 | Section B

Macklins Spring | 5th out of 8 | Section B

Due to some of our Juniors ageing out of the league, and some new players joining, we have had a reshuffle of the squads. We can’t wait to see what these new squads can do together this season! 

Along with new teams, we have selected new team Captains and Vice Captains for this season. These individuals have been chosen for their proven leadership skills at games and training, and we’re looking forward to seeing them step up and lead their teammates. They will have certain responsibilities on game days and during training, which they have already started to take on.

Looking forward to the upcoming Senior Winter Season, the Committee has decided to only enter two teams. This is due to 3s not being able to field a team most weeks, and a lot of players being unavailable for the Winter season for various reasons. As the Winter league doesn’t have any effect on standings (eg, if a team comes last in the Winter League, they would not be demoted for the following Summer League), we will be trialling two teams with the hope that we can re-enter a 3rd Senior team next year. We also hope that this team can be full of current juniors that will have reached the required age and skill for the Senior League. With that in mind, here are the squads for the upcoming season.

Fixtures for Junior and Senior Winter League games are now live and have been uploaded to Teamo. Please make sure you put in your availability for as many games as possible as soon as you can to make coaches/ captains lives a little easier. Fixtures can also be found on @macklinsnc on Instagram and are pinned at the top of the page.

This season, we’re introducing a new system for match fees, which will now be charged in advance. This approach is more cost-effective for both members and the club, helping us manage costs more efficiently. The first installment is due now, and the second installment will be required after the 31st of October. Please note that this is not optional, and all members are required to pay in advance. You can find the payment option under the ‘Payments’ section of Teamo by selecting ‘Tap to Buy Membership.’ Thank you for your cooperation in making this process smoother for everyone. With the appointment of a new junior coach, we thought it would be good to give you an update on our junior coaches and volunteers and what they do.

Phill Harvey: Head Coach, runs junior training every other week

Clare Knowles: Junior Coach, runs junior training every other week

Brit Clarke: Senior Coach, runs senior training every week

Amara Agbataekwe: Tornado Coach, coaches Tornado on game days and assists at junior training

Erin Dougan: Cyclone and Hurricane Coach, coaches Cyclone and Hurricane on game days and assists at junior training

Jemma Gregory: Storm coach, coaches Storm on game days and assists at junior training

Nosizwe Meseorisa: assists at junior training and match days

We are always on the lookout for more sponsorship opportunities to fund our club.

Through sponsorship from Space Innovation Services, we were able to get our youngest junior team, Cyclone matching netball dresses for their most recent season and fund part of our Awards Night.
