Storm took on a strong Diamonds side on Saturday in a competitive fixture, with Diamonds running out 30–10 winners. Despite the score line, the match showed clear progress across the court for Storm.
The first quarter ended 7–3 to Diamonds, with Storm continuing to work hard in the second quarter as Diamonds extended their lead 7–1. The third quarter (11–3) tested Storm’s resilience, but the team responded positively, maintaining effort and structure. The final quarter was much closer, finishing 5–3 to Diamonds and reflecting Storm’s growing confidence.
Defensively, Storm showed excellent use of Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 defence, applying pressure and contesting possession against a capable attacking side. The Macklins players never gave up, working at 100% throughout the match and pushing themselves to their best.
There were plenty of encouraging signs, including improved interceptions, passing and decision-making, all showing that the team is developing well.
Player of the Match was awarded to Layla, who played GK, GD and C, demonstrating great versatility. Her strong defensive work against a good Diamonds team stood out and made a real impact.
While the result didn’t go Storm’s way, every game is a learning opportunity — we win and we learn — and this match showed just how much progress the team is making.
A big thank you to Diamonds for a great game and for being strong, competitive opponents throughout.
